Farz dates

Compare two dates side by side when you have the chance. Look at their size, the shape of their tips and the lines along each side.

Close view of dates and their textured skin

A glossy, dark surface

Farz, commonly written Fard, is a dark date known for the sheen on its skin. On a curved surface, the brightest spot moves as the angle of light changes. That makes this variety especially interesting to draw.

Try this observation

Place a small white space inside your pencil outline for the highlight. Add darker pencil around it and watch the fruit take shape.

The glossy skin of Farz gives the eye a clear point to follow. Change your viewing angle and notice how the highlight shifts while the outline stays the same. Ask which varieties can be seen on your preferred visit date. Use the next guide to try the same exercise with another variety.
